Portfolios & Scholarships

Every term, Vancouver Animation School allocates $9,000 CAD towards scholarships.  An exciting journey to recruit those we believe will be successful professional artists and make a difference in the Animation, Visual Effects and Video Games industries.    Scholarships at Vancouver Animation School are competitive and based on merit.  Prospective students competing for a scholarship will need to complete an application form including non refundable fees.

 

Number of Scholarships Available

  • A total of two scholarships per Term
  • One 5% scholarship and One 10% scholarship per Term
  • Terms:  Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer.
  • A total of eight scholarships are given per calendar year
  • $9,000 allocated to recruit the next generation of talent

 

Scholarships have the following values

  1. 10% discount of the total program tuition
  2. 5% discount of the total program tuition

(Example 1: Concept Art Diploma tuition minus 10% scholarship.   $14,900 - $1,490 = $13,410)
(Example 2: Concept Art Diploma tuition minus 5% scholarship.   $14,900 - $745 = $14,155)

 

Eligibility

  • Scholarships are only valid prior to enrollment (once enrolled in a program, there are no scholarships)
  • Scholarships are competitive, your submission will be competing against other submissions.  Submit your best work
  • Applicants must meet the admission criteria per program
  • Applicants must prove the ability to afford the remaining balance of the program tuition
  • Applicant must complete an application form within 10 days of being awarded an scholarship

 

Scholarships apply only to online diploma programs

  • 3D Computer Character Animation Diploma (12 months)
  • 3D Computer Character Animation Diploma - Part Time (24 months)
  • Concept Art Diploma (12 months)
  • Concept Art Diploma - Part Time (24 months)
  • Digital Matte Painting Diploma (12 months)

 

3D Character Animation Portfolio Requirements

  • 1 character dialogue (5 sec. to 20 sec.)
  • 1 pantomime (5 sec. to 20 sec.)
  • 1 physical action (jump, sitting, balance, etc.)
  • 1 walk cycle (treadmill or progressive,  4 steps minimum)

Concept Art Portfolio Requirements

  • 5 life drawing gestural pieces (please label them as 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 5 minutes and 30 mins (2 poses))
  • 1 male character (real, cartoony or fantasy)
  • 1 female character (real, cartoony or fantasy)
  • 2 creatures (animals or fantasy)
  • 1 environment (Natural Exterior)
  • 1 environment (Interior)
  • 1 tech design (vehicle, props, machines, etc.)

Digital Matte Painting Portfolio Requirements

  • 1 Natural exterior environments, with a minimum of two vanishing points, line work only as we need to see your perspective and foundations skills
  • 1 Natural exterior environments, with a minimum of two vanishing points, color study only as we need to see your perspective and foundations skills
  • 1 Interior environment, with a minimum of two vanishing points, line work only as we need to see your perspective and foundations skills
  • 1 Interior environment, with a minimum of two vanishing points, color study only as we need to see your perspective and foundations skills
  • 1 set extension demonstrating before and after
  • 1 tech design (vehicle, props, machines, etc.)

Common Requirements

Regardless the program of study, prospective students will need to present the following:

  • Portfolio
  • Professional Experience (if applicable)

 

Deadlines

Portfolios are due 10 days before the start of the program

  • Winter Session Deadline: December 11th, 2016 - Accepting Scholarship Applications
  • Spring Session: Scholarship Deadline Sunday March 26th, 2017. Classes Start April 10th, 2017 - Open
  • Summer Session: Scholarship Deadline: Sunday July 2nd, 2017.  Classes Start on July 10th, 2017 – Open
  • Fall Session submission deadline:  September 16, 2016 - Open,   (Classes Start September 26th, 2016).

 

Scholarship Withdrawal

Students must maintain a minimum of a letter B+ grade throughout their course of studies, otherwise the scholarship will be withdrawn.  Students that have been awarded a scholarship need to be committed to their studies and won't be eligible to take a leave of absence.

 

Working Professionals

If you are already a working professional artist and are looking for more training or a career change, your experience will be considered as an additional credential when applying for a scholarship.
