Can you tell us a bit of your art background prior to VANAS?
I was self taught before I took a one year intensive Visual Effects program in 2013. They gave me an overall taste of everything before I decided I really wanted to get into Digital Matte Painting.
What were your motivations to take the program?
After my completion with the Visual Effects program I had taken I realized I really wanted to pursue a Matte Painting career. It was something I really enjoyed but felt I didn't get enough of with my previous program. I knew it was going to be a lot of work and in the end I found VANAS' Digital Matte Painting program which ended up being a very fulfilling experience.
How has VANAS helped you?
VANAS has equipped me with a strong understanding of my profession and has given me a good base to continue to work upon. The teachers were absolute gems and really pushed me when I needed it. I really enjoyed the fact that they are working professionals that gave me the tools, knowledge, and confidence I needed for a continuously updating industry.

Can you mention some A-ha! moments during your education?
My A-ha moments came closer to the end of the program when I realized I was able to put to use all of the skills I learned to create something I wasn't able to do properly before. My understanding had broadened considerably and the disciplines that I struggled with before became much easier.

How do you compare your art skills before and after VANAS?
I felt that I really lacked a lot of the technical background that went into Digital Matte Painting beforehand, I wasn't completely sure how to do certain things which left me struggling and unsure. I came to VANAS in hopes of acquiring those important skills I needed and I wasn't disappointed. I am much more confident now in my skills and abilities.
What was your favourite class and teacher?

My favorite classes were probably during the assembly of my paintings. Finding images and integrating them into my vision was very fulfilling for me. I really enjoyed watching my own process from start to finish.
Is there anything you would like to add?
I hope I will be able to provide some insight and encouragement to those also traveling a similar path.
